90′s Banana Republic Dress

April 12, 2010

Would you believe I found this dress and a pair of Esprit Loafers at the same thrift store (in my size!!) but they were just worn to hell. So I just bought the dress- only $4.99! This dress reminds me a lot like what is in the UO catalog right now, so I feel like I just shopped off a mega clearance rack at Urban Outfitters. I shouldn’t have thrown it in the washer (tag reads dry clean only), but I thought you could wash rayon? Check out the dress below:

So it’s navy with pink flowers randomly floating across the fabric. It has bat-wing/ butterfly sleeves and a built-in belted waist. It would look razz-ma-tazz with white leggings and some loafers. I’m keeping my eyes out.

’70s Water Color Wrap Dress

April 8, 2010

This dress used to attend all the best late summer parties in Texas. It has danced drunkenly underneath Chinese lanterns and Christmas lights strung along the patio, smoked cigarillos, and rubbed cuffs with a few gentleman callers. Much like a princess locked in a tower, this dress was forsaken to a storage box in an attic then donated away. I rescued this dress. Once again this dress will feel the late summer sun and cool autumn air lingering in the magnolias and oleander. This dress hasn’t danced its last dance; It’s just begun a new chapter.

Breast Detail:

Though it wasn’t technically “on-sale,” I still paid under $15 for this dress ($11.99 + tax to be exact) at a thrift store in Hollywood. I can’t wait to be invited to a wine & cheese party (which I have),  just too bad its not in Texas!!

IT’S FRIDAY & IT’S FREE- GOLDFRAPP ROCKET VIDEO!!

April 2, 2010

Goldfrapp makes me so happy. I couldn’t find a free mp3 of this song, so feast your eyes on the vid instead. It reminds me of driving through the southwest last summer, except I had a broken down car, not a big rig with a giant purple rocket. (yikes, the innuendo!)

Liz Claiborne Polka Dot Jacket!

March 31, 2010

Ohhh. As soon as I saw this I knew I had to have it. Its a vintage Liz Claiborne 3/4 sleeve, bat-wing, polka-dotted, jacket= fresh out of the 80′s. I removed the puffy shoulder pads and it was ready to rock. Enjoy!

Oh Yeah! I certainly didn’t spend a lot, but I did shell out $14.00 for this darling jacket at a cleverly hidden Salvation Army in Pasadena. The waist is cinched and looks great worn unbuttoned (or buttoned).  Romance in polka dots!

IT’S FRIDAY & IT’S FREE!!! -My Very Own Art School Archives Unvaulted

March 26, 2010

Strange and magical art vid I made as an undergrad at Lamar Dodd. I forget what the whole project was about, but look, it’s still on youtube:

Scary, trippy, creepy, sparkley- would I make anything else? Surprisingly it was super easy to make glitter fly into the doll’s hands, it was thrown then edited to play in reverse.

MOTORCYCLE BOOTS-REFURBISHED!

March 26, 2010

Last Sunday my sweetheart and I went for a walk in Echo Park and of course, I wondered into a thrift store- Out of the Closet, to be exact. And hip, hip, hooray! All women’s shoes were 1/2 OFF! I got this pare of super comfy, super broke in, black leather motorcycle boots for- GET THIS- $5.13 !!!! I love them because they have straps, buckles, and are mid-calf. This girl is a sucker for a great pair of boots, even if they’re pre-owned. As always, pics below.

Some really heavy rider/ partier must of loved these before me, because they had this strange burn at the top-  like someone used to rev up the harley then put their cigarette out on the calf of ‘em. What a badass! Anyways, after some black shoe polish, good as new. I like to wear them with black tights and short dresses.

GRANDMA’S OWL

March 26, 2010

My grandma gave me this (gigantic <3! ) owl a long time ago when she found out I had started my own menagerie.  It was of course 1970′s earth flat brown. I decided to give this owl a make over à la mousie brown and for less than $4.00, I bought Wildflower Blue glossy spray paint at Home Depot and sprayed away. Now, I have a lovely, shiny owl perched on my broken heater!
